Klebefolie ist ein bemerkenswert unscheinbares Material. Sie tritt erst ins Bewusstsein, wenn man sie benutzt, zuschneidet oder wieder ablöst. Genau darin liegt der Reiz, einen meta-thematischen Artikel über sie zu schreiben: Während das Material Oberflächen verändert, verändert der Text die Wahrnehmung dieses Materials. So entsteht ein doppelter Prozess – ein Aufkleben und ein Beschreiben – bei dem Form und Inhalt einander spiegeln. Wenn man Klebefolie verarbeitet, beginnt man mit dem Messen. Man prüft den Untergrund, glättet Unebenheiten, entfernt Staub. Ein Text funktioniert ähnlich. Bevor er sich entfalten kann, müssen Gedanken zurechtgelegt, Begriffe geglättet und störende Ablenkungen beseitigt werden. Die Vorbereitung bestimmt den Erfolg. Wer eine Folie schief aufbringt, kämpft später mit Blasen; Wer einen Text unpräzise beginnt, kämpft mit logischen Falten. Interessant wird es dort, wo Folie und Text gemeinsam metaphorisch werden. Die Schutzschicht der Folie lässt sich als Pendant zu den ersten, rohen Ideen verstehen, die im Kopf haften, aber noch nicht freigelegt sind. Erst wenn man diese Schicht löst, zeigt sich, was wirklich klebt – die endgültige Aussage, das gestaltende Muster. Jeder Satz haftet an seinem Vorgänger, jeder Abschnitt baut auf dem Handbuch auf. Schreiben ist damit ein Prozess der kontrollierten Haftung. Auch die Funktion der Klebefolie bietet Stoff für metatextuelle Reflexion. Sie tarnt, verschönert, schützt, täuscht manchmal sogar. Ein Holzdekor über einer einfachen Pressspanplatte ist eine ästhetische Behauptung. Texte tun etwas Vergleichbares: Sie strukturieren Gedanken, verleihen dem Banalen Bedeutung oder kaschieren Komplexität durch elegante Formulierungen. Manchmal ist Sprache, genau wie Folie, ein Mittel der Aufwertung. Manchmal ein Mittel des Verbergens. Und oft beides zugleich. Ein metathematischer Blick macht zudem sichtbar, dass der Umgang mit Klebefolie – wie der Umgang mit Sprache – immer auch Kontrolle bedeutet. Der Mensch entscheidet, welche Flächen sichtbar bleiben, welche überdeckt werden sollen. Im Text entscheidet man, welche Ideen freigelegt und welche ausgespart werden. Die Gestaltung ist kein Zufall, sondern Absicht, und die Absicht ist selbst Teil der Oberfläche, die entsteht.
